Post mortems

... a BIG mistake!

This morning Alan was reading aloud, the paper I had on Tues, about the French and their love of mobile phones.

One of the questions I had was something about the freedom young people have now that they have mobiles, and we had to back up our answers from the text.

Well, I thought the word "fache" was to chat, so I happily wrote a comment a young person had written in said text, that she was able to chat with her freinds and able to go into the village, and not worry if she was late cos she could always use her mobile to let her parents know.

The word "fache" means to get cross!!

A different slant on the meaning of freedom perhaps!?

One of the good things about living here, is that they seem very keen on recycling.

We have two bins, a black one and a green one. No prizes for guessing which one is for cardboard etc.

Well the green one is emptied on Thurs. and the black one, Tuesdays and Saturdays.

I often don't put out the black one, I usually fill the green one up more. Just shows how much packaging we have on our food stuffs etc.

One of the things that we haven't got into yet, is the lateness that the children here seem to go to bed. Ours go between 730 - 8 if posssible, that is after they have done their homework (which they get every night) They get in from school about 515. Tea about 6pm

We have come to see that most people here eat about 8pm , so for them a 7pm bed time just wouldn't work, unless you want to send the children to bed hungry.

I can't understand how they manage to get up for school the next day! We have to leave the house about 7.45 or 7.55 at the latest to get to the school for 8.30. It takes an age to get ready in the morning as any one would know who has children to chivvy along each morning.."eat your breakfast, clean yourt teeth, put your shoes on, brush your hair"
then of course, the shoes are never where you put them, they have a life of their own, and wander freely around the house whilst we sleep. The hair brush joins them on their nightly prowl, and so do the socks!!

Maybe it's because the youngsters here are brought up with the idea, and have a lifetime of tiredness???

Gwilym starts collége in September. They start at 8am!!

You think French kids stay up late eh? (And yes, they do). However, we drove down to Athens one year for our family holiday where we parked our car at an hotel by Streffi Park. We were so thankful that our room didn't overlook the Park because the adult Brits in those rooms were complaining that the kids were up making a noise, (and they DID make a lot of noise, even from a distant part of the hotel we were aware of that!), so late at night that they were keeping them awake. Mind you, if my memory serves me correctly, they had an appreciably longer siesta even than the French school system, but none-the-less!
It was good though, we left the car parked outside the hotel and went island-hopping by boat.
